The RCR recently published new recommendations on alerts and notification of imaging reports. A major change is the inclusion of a new dedicated CANCER pathway, requiring new cancer or a new cancer recurrence (not simple progression) to be flagged to the referrers. Updates to the Everlight Radiology workflow and our Alerts policy are in progress and will be shared with our reporting team shortly.
The main objective of the updated guidance is to ensure prompt and effective imaging result notification and its subsequent action to protect patient safety. It includes:
- Definitions of the different categories of imaging findings that require an alert notification
- A list of critical findings for which an alert should be triggered
- Simplified national alert text codes for imaging reports.
